As a proud West Aucklander, I can tell you that this region is a hidden gem that beautifully blends stunning landscapes with a vibrant community spirit. Whether you’re a local like me or just passing through, there’s so much to explore right in our backyard.
West Auckland Natural Wonders
Waitakere Ranges
The Waitakere Ranges are where I often escape for some fresh air and adventure. With over 16,000 hectares of lush native bush, waterfalls, and breathtaking views, it’s a paradise for hikers and nature lovers.
Stunning Beaches
Our coastline truly stands out. Growing up nearest to Muriwai Beach, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for our beautiful beaches. Piha, with its iconic black sand and strong surf, is a must-visit. Karekare is my go-to for walking my dogs, offering a stunning backdrop and very quiet. Then there’s Bethells Beach, which feels untouched and is ideal for a peaceful stroll or a picnic. These places really highlight how fortunate we are to live here.
West Auckland Cultural Highlights
The Local Arts Scene
West Auckland has a thriving arts community that I love to support. The galleries and studios in Titirangi (who hold some of my prints) and Henderson showcase the incredible talent of local artists.
West Auckland Community
Farmers’ Markets
The Titirangi Village Market (which I attend) is a great place to pick up fresh produce, artisanal goods, and enjoy a relaxed community vibe. I appreciate the variety of tasty offerings from our talented vendors—there’s always something interesting to try, and the coffee is de-lish!
Conclusion
Living in West Auckland is a privilege I cherish every day. From the breathtaking landscapes to our tight-knit community, there’s always something to discover. So, whether you’re hiking the ranges, enjoying a day at the beach, or soaking in the local arts, I invite you to explore the hidden treasures of our amazing region. You won’t be disappointed!
